$216,000 -- a
portion of a large federal grant awarded to the City of Troy.
This adds significant
momentum to our quest to restore the Burden Iron Works Museum, a National
Register Structure in the heart of South Troy. The restoration plans
are to:
- replace the
leaking roof.
- repair the
brickwork.
- restore historic
interior finishes.
- provide accessibility
for the disabled.
- add parking.
- install signage.
This is only
a beginning. The total cost of necessary work is nearly four times
the sum of these grants. In addition, we must look ahead and plan
for the upkeep of the building. To that end, the Gateway has launched
a $2.5 million Capital Campaign.
What you can
do to help
First, we have
to secure the existing awards. The second grant is fully matched by
the first, but the first grant must be matched with an additional
$125,000 in a year's time. Your contributions to the Capital Campaign
will help us make this match.
As an extra incentive
if your donation is in cash instead of appreciated securities, the
Gateway has secured a substantial award of New York State income
tax credits from the Troy Economic Development Zone that it can
provide to cash donors to this campaign on a 25 per cent basis. This
significantly reduces the net donation amount for donors with a New
York State income tax exposure.
Please consider
making your most generous Gateway contribution ever to this critically
important Capital Campaign. The Burden Iron Works Museum -- and the
industrial heritage of the entire region -- are counting on you!
